★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Stazione di Cassano Jonio era una delle principali delle Ferrovie Calabro Lucane
La linea ferrata partiva da Spezzano Albanese (cs) e terminava a Lagonegro (PZ) e lungo il suo percorso collegava diversi paesi dell' interno, passando anche da Castrovillari (cs) e da Morano Calabro (cs). Nei tratti più pendenti la motrice ( prima una locomotiva a carbone, poi spinta da un motore a nafta)si innestava sulla cremagliera fissa per evitare scivolamenti; ricordo che faceva un caratteristico rumore di ferraglia... È stata dismessa circa anni 60 anni fa.
Oggi la si sta convertendo in pista ciclabile ed è già attivo il tratto Castrovillari-Morano, percorso molto amato dai cicloturisti.

The railway line started from Spezzano Albanese (cs) and ended in Lagonegro (PZ) and along its route it connected various towns in the interior, also passing through Castrovillari (cs) and Morano Calabro (cs). In the most sloping sections the engine (first a coal locomotive, then pushed by an oil engine) engaged on the fixed rack to prevent slipping; I remember that it made a characteristic sound of scrap metal ... It was abandoned about 60 years ago.
Today it is being converted into a cycle path and the Castrovillari-Morano stretch is already active, a route much loved by cyclists.
