Sormano Astronomical Observatory

The Solmano Observatory (Italian: Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano, obs) is an observatory in northern Milan, Italy. It is a small observatory with a simple shape. Located near the border between Italy and Switzerland, at an altitude of 1000 meters, in the mountain village of Solmano in front of the Alps, next to a mountain road, with an elegant environment and beautiful scenery! It is a privately funded observatory for astronomical education, promotion and research by Gruppo Astrofili Brianza, built in 1986. The observatory is known for its observations of "asteroids" and "comets" in the solar system. After its first consecration in January 1989, the observatory was operated by several amateur astronomers, such as Marco Cavagna, Valter Giuliani, Piero Sicoli, Pierangelo Ghezzi, Francesco Manca, Paolo Chiavenna, Graziano Ventre and Augusto Testa, who used its The 50 cm "Cavagna Telescope", the Ritchey-Chrétien primary mirror for their asteroid observations and discoveries. Solmano's astronomers developed their own control software to make follow-up observations of near-Earth objects such as 4179 Toutatis and 99942 Apophis. The Eunomia asteroid number 6882 (Sormano), discovered by Piero Sicoli and Valter Giuliani, is named in honor of the village and its observatory.
