Alessia assured me I did not need to write the recipes down because she would email them to me. I waited for 10 days and sent an email requesting the recipes and was told that she “is very busy and to wait”. Another couple of weeks passed and I emailed again. Alessia cannot remember what we cooked and only sent a list of ingredients without quantities or method to cook. I am so disappointed because I really want to reproduce what we made at home.

Like a dunce, I didn't plan ahead, but instead emailed Alessia the day before asking if she happened to have any availability for a tour the next day. She responded promptly, and re-arranged her schedule to provide an excellent experience for my husband and myself. She took us through Ortigia (in Siracusa), and the highlight was the traditional market, where we sampled A LOT of delicious food and wine. Arrive hungry, because the tour is extremely generous with the food and wine, and all is included. Alessia herself is a lot of fun, very friendly and informative. Not only did she take us on the tour that day, but she also helped us make a dinner reservation for that evening, and was available via WhatsApp two days later to recommend a sandwich joint near Catania. Super responsive and a great value. She could charge twice as much and I'd happily pay it!

She walked with me around town and everyone knew and loved her - which opened doors for us to taste, explore, and try everything. Cooking with her was truly a pleasure - she respected that I often cook and so made me feel like we were partners in the kitchen which I appreciated! We shared our meal and our wine and I learned just how lovely a person she is over the delicious fruits of our labor. I’m so looking forward to returning and cooking with Alessia again.

We started by going to the local market and sampling some local delicacies. From there we selected out ingredients for the class. Then, it was to the kitchen where we did the preparations and cooking. Alessia was so friendly, spending time with a local really made the trip to Siracusa special. I highly recommend this to all who have any interest in Sicilian food, as you learn a skill for life.
