Mi aspettavo un santuario molto più grande, invece è una chiesetta piccola con un piccolo giardino e, nascosto, si trova il convento domenicano. La statua della Madonna di Gulfi è di marmo di Carrara e le corone in testa ad essa e al Bambino sono elaboratissime e preziosissime. Essendo il 14 agosto, abbiamo trovato l'altare tutto adornato di fiori pronto per la processione di Ferragosto. Ho chiesto la storia di questo posto ad un ragazzo che è stato gentilissimo nel raccontarmi anche le leggende oltre alla struttura architettonica della chiesa. Solo lui meriterebbe 10 stelle per la disponibilità!! Il 15 agosto ci sono 60 portantini che portano a spalla la statua fino al paese di Chiaromonte Gulfi che è tutto in salita e devono farlo entro un'ora altrimenti la leggenda vuole che se non riescono per quel tale tempo gli abitanti di Gela se la riprendono! È un piccolo posto ricco di storia e leggende!! Not being local, it was easy to find. I was expecting a much larger sanctuary, instead it is a small church with a small garden and, hidden, is the Dominican convent. The statue of the Madonna of Gulfi is of Carrara marble and the crowns on top of it and the Child are extremely elaborate and precious. Since Aug. 14, we found the altar plethora of flowers ready for the procession of August. I asked the story of this place to a boy who was very kind in telling me the legends as well as the architectural structure of the church. Only he deserves 10 stars for the availability !! On August 15 there are 60 porters carrying the statue on their shoulders to the village of Chiaromonte Gulfi which is all uphill and they must do it within an hour otherwise the legend says that if they do not succeed for that time the inhabitants of Gela take it back ! It's a small place rich in history and legends !!

Esternamente troviamo un anfiteatro dove in tempi di covid molto usato per fare messe all'aperto. qui troviamo la Madonna di gulfi Small sanctuary at the foot of Chiaramonte Gulfi. Il resto del Santuario non so se è visitabile, ma sicuramente ci ritornerò con più calma. Beautiful church, full of charm and Christianity. The works contained therein are well maintained and accessible to the explorer. I don't know if the rest of the Sanctuary can be visited, but I will certainly return with more calm.

Un piccolo Santuario, di importanza storica e culturale, con interessanti aspetti artistici del Barocco siciliano, tenuto come un gioiello: pareti tappezzate da grandi quadri pregiati, da poco restaurati con il contributo dei fedeli. L'altare, maestoso, con in alto, centrale, la statua della Madonna Santissima, che sovrasta tutto e tutti, ma con una espressione dolcissima. Il simulacro della SS Maria Vergine di Gulfi, in occasione della Festa a lei dedicata nella prima domenica dopo Pasqua, viene portato a spalla da decine di fedeli, nella folkloristica "Salita" - processione "Culto" - in cui i portatori (selezionati e orgogliosi del prestigioso incarico) portano la Statua al Duomo di Chiaramonte; un percorso di oltre 4 km, in forte salita, ma la Statua di Maria SS, deve arrivare rigorosamente in non più di un'ora, e ogni anno arriva puntualissima...Grande partecipazione di fedeli da ogni parte, anche per le celebrazioni della "Quindicina", dall'1 al 15 agosto, in onore della Vergine Maria che, secondo un'antica leggenda, (fonti risalenti al tardo Medioevo), avrebbe scelto Chiaramonte come "approdo" del suo peregrinare, dopo essere stata salvata dalle persecuzioni di Bisanzio. Recentemente il Santuario è stato restaurato, con interventi importanti nelle pareti, nei preziosi quadri e, in particolare, nel pavimento (modernamente riscaldato), ricostruito con fedele attenzione alla storia del Santuario. Una visita a questo piccolo gioiello di Arte Sacra, fa bene, sia al cuore, allo spirito e sopratutto, all'anima. A small sanctuary, of historical and cultural importance, with interesting artistic aspects of the Sicilian Baroque, kept like a jewel: walls covered with large precious paintings, recently restored with the help of the faithful. The altar, majestic, with at the top, in the center, the statue of the Holy Madonna, which dominates everything and everyone, but with a very sweet expression. The simulacrum of the Virgin Mary of Gulfi, on the occasion of the Feast dedicated to her on the first Sunday after Easter, is carried on the shoulders of dozens of faithful, in the folkloristic "Salita" - "Culto" procession - in which the bearers (selected and proud of the prestigious assignment) bring the statue to the Cathedral of Chiaramonte; a path of over 4 km, steeply uphill, but the Statue of Maria SS, must arrive strictly in no more than an hour, and every year it arrives on time ...
