The sanctuary is like a place straight out of a fairy tale. Definitely worth a watch. If you don't like hiking there are buses going up and down the mountain

We hiked today to Our Lady of the Crown Sanctuary which has been constructed halfway onto a steep cliff in 1525. Along the way, we passed by different Station of the Cross, a sculptural depiction of Christ and the events on the day he was crucified. There was a valley stretching down below, the river Adige meandering through, and then the church peaked behind the cragged rocks while its bell tower was reaching for the sky above.

A beautiful church built on the side of a cliff. Reminds me of the Neuschwanstein castle in Germany. The church opens around 1015 so if you get there early you will have to wait. Just a few yards down a dirt path before the tunnel entrance are, you can get a pretty shot of the church.

For those arriving in Italy from northern countries, in particular Austria and Germany, one of the most popular routes is certainly the Brenner Pass which crosses the valley of the Adige river, the second longest river in Italy. This valley leads to Verona along Lake Garda, a very popular tourist destination. The Adige valley strikes those who cross it for the multitude of castles and fortresses, perched on strategic and dominant points, which served to defend the territory and control commercial traffic. But on one of these walls, set in the rock, in a place inaccessible for a long time, there is a sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna della Corona. Now there is a road that, coming from above, makes it much easier to reach the sanctuary even if there is always a bit of a walk. @mariacristinafossa and I have chosen the traditional route, the one followed in ancient times, a path that climbs the mountain with 1614 high steps, which allow you to overcome the 600 meters of difference in height between the town of Brentino and the sanctuary. We arrive in Brentino, a tiny village, which owes its vitality above all to the path of hope that leads to the sanctuary. The houses are embellished with flowers and drawings on the walls. The route begins with a staircase next to a spring. The villagers warn us that this is the only point where you can see the sanctuary because the path does not allow any vision except when you arrive practically in the vicinity. We see it far away and we are afraid of not being able to reach it, it will take a lot of will and a lot of effort. We go up the ramps for an hour and a quarter and, first in the woods and then on stairways carved directly into the rock. As announced, we see the Sanctuary when coming out from behind a rocky wall, with safety wire ropes, there are fewer trees that cover the view and we enter the gorge on which the sanctuary stands. The songs of pilgrims inside the church welcome us, amplified by the rock walls. We faced it as a tourist, but for those who face it with a religious spirit, the atmosphere that surrounds it certainly has something mystical that invites prayer and reflection. In all honesty, we too have been involved in this climate that invites meditation and we have been kidnapped from inside the sanctuary which has the rock of the mountain as its walls and roof. The sanctuary, as a chapel, already existed around the year 1000 AD. and subsequently always expanded over the centuries up to the current dimensions and shapes dating back to the 70s of the last century. An image of the Madonna is venerated, which in tradition would have miraculously appeared in that place from Rhodes around 1500, but it seems to have been donated by some noble to the sanctuary. Therefore, if you are a tourist who comes from the north and heads towards the south of our country and you intend to rest a little on the long journey, I recommend that you visit this place of reflection and spirituality, you will better prepare yourself for summer adventures on our beautiful beaches. Technical notes: difference in altitude about 600 meters, between the round trip about 3200 steps, 1 hour and 30 minutes outward and an hour and ten back, including the time needed for photos.
