I studied abroad at SRISA from Fall 2014 to Spring 2015 My decision to turn my single semester abroad in Florence to a full year, was one that wouldn't have been made without Santa Reparata International School of Art. The close knit atmosphere of the staff and students created an environment where I felt valued, safe, and open to new experiences. I was given the space and time to find myself as an artist and person, guided with challenging courses as well as once in a lifetime out of school experiences (such as the field trips to Rome, Cinque Terre, Pompeii and more) While in Florence, I injured my back, causing me to need surgery. As someone who wasn't fluent in Italian, and having never had an injury as severe as this (or at all,) I was scared of how to handle the situation, and hated the idea of going home and missing the rest of my year abroad. The SRISA staff went above and beyond to connect me with the best hospital and care, and made phone call after phone call to make sure my needs were communicated to those necessary. Some of the staff even drove themselves and my friends out to the hospital to see me and make sure I didn't spend my first night alone. My mom came to help me, and they managed to quickly set her up with a place to stay nearby the hospital and school, and helped her arrive and meet me. In this rare situation I felt completely taken care of because of the SRISA staff, and give them enormous thanks for all of their support. I was able to return after a month out of school, and at that time they greeted me with open arms and all the help I needed to continue classes at a manageable pace during my recovery.

I studied abroad here in my last year of university. It's a wonderful school with a caring staff dedicated both to helping students improve their artistic skills and providing their students with the best study experience possible in Florence, Italy. Staff work closely with students to refine their technique, teach them new skills and prepare them for the end of semester gallery exhibition. LESSONS: The lessons are designed to build student autonomy as the class becomes familiar with new techniques, but professors are always available at the school to guide students when needed. The building itself is clean and well equipped for multiple disciplines. I had the opportunity to study painting, drawing, Italian language, film photography, digital photography, etching, bookmaking and more while I was there. STAFF: I can personally attest to the kindness and professionalism of my instructors at SRISA. During my semester there, my family back in America endured a loss. My teachers were beyond understanding and accommodated me in whatever way they could so that I would not be overwhelmed in my last few weeks at the school. It speaks to the character of the staff that I am still so grateful for them over three years later. LOCATION: SRISA is in a fantastic location just about 15-20 minutes walk from the main square (the one with Il Duomo that you will see in a lot of tourist photos). Though it's near the square, the immediate area around the school is quieter and has a lot of local flavor. When I was there, it was just 5 minutes from an amazing Italian bakery that made chocolate filled croissants bigger than your hand, 10 minutes from an authentic gelateria with a parade of monthly flavors, and literally just around the corner from the best sandwich shop I have ever experienced. SRISA is a relatively small school in a stunning city with incredible staff, great location and interesting class options. If you have the opportunity to study there, take it. You won't regret the amazing memories that follow.

My experience here is the highlight of my university career. Amazing and caring staff, phenomenal teachers, and such a dynamic and welcoming space. I love getting to go to the studio because it means being at Santa Reparata and seeing everyone there. If you are an art student and you are looking for a welcoming and laid back place to really grow, this. is. It. Thank you SRISA!?
