Unfortunately now it is permanently closed and you can not miss seeing them from outside

Very nice place certainly would need a deep renovation .....

The convent was closed and I was unable to enter the church even though it was 6pm. Outside it was badly cared for and with too tall grass. I will return and I hope to find in better condition, forces close to the patronal feast will put them in better condition ?

On the Belvedere hill, which overlooks the city from the south, in the last quarter of the fifteenth century, the Convent of the Observance was built, named after Sant'Antonio di Padova, commonly called Sant'Antonio del Monte not for its topographical location but for the fact that the friars of the Osservanza held the management of the pecuniary mountain set up in the city thanks to the indefatigable work of friar Bernardino da Feltre, which the Church would soon honor as blessed for his infallible struggle against feneratizia activity, the loan usury that did so much damage to the economy during the early modern age. The convent, founded in 1474, prospered thanks to the generous legacies of many citizens grateful for the benefits obtained by the friars of the Osservanza and fulfilled the role of apothecary and infirmary for all the Franciscan places of the Rieti Custody. Built in line with the hermitage of San Biagio, currently reduced to private use and recognizable in its primitive forms, to which after the preaching of Fra Leonardo da Porto Maurizio he was connected via the Via Crucis which culminates in the churchyard from which one of the more pleasant panoramas of the city of Rieti, the convent houses the processional statue of the Saint carried by the arms along the streets of the Borgo on the last Sunday of August: it is the feast of Sant'Antoniucciu, lived with sincere devotion not always free from popular rivalries, here and there by the river.
