The ugliest and poorly kept cemetery I have ever visited! Tall grass, mosquitoes with swarms, abandoned tombs, walls and stairs yielded and unsafe. Some gravestones of the cineraries have fallen and have been abandoned on the ground for months .... also in a city with such a high percentage of elderly people the shuttle service should be strengthened. The only positive note is the kindness of the operators of the administrative service.

It is the main cemetery of Trieste. It is large and easily accessible by car or bus, but the first few times you feel a bit lost, fortunately both at the upper and lower entrance there is a convenient and clear map that explains the organization of the burials and indicates those of significant people, and even the information center works very well. Lots of interesting tombs, beautiful monumental ones in the upper part, true works of art and historical evidence despite the sad context. It would take a little more maintenance though.

Catholic cemetery in the city, in use since 1825. Trieste experienced the most flourishing period in its history as the main port of the Habsburg empire in the 19th century. The population of the city grew rapidly from 30,000 inhabitants in the 1800s to 235,000 inhabitants in 1914 and settled here, remaining practically constant (except for the periods immediately following the two world wars) up to the present day. Due to lack of space, already in the early 1800s, the municipal administration sought alternative solutions to the two old cemeteries, located on the San Giusto hill, not far from the cathedral. The cemetery is well kept and the information service works well. A place of peace, I think it is important to remember your dead with a visit.

Grazie !
A truly suggestive place despite everything, I who come from Bologna every year on the grave of my husband's aunt, find cleanliness, efficiency and a lot of courtesy for those like me who come from outside. The last time I wanted to see the tomb of Umberto Saba and although I could not find the map, a very kind employee went with me to the place. Thanks !

Historic Trieste cemetery, the largest in the city. It develops in a very large area in the east of Triesye and is rich in grassy flowerbeds and tree-lined paths. There are many single and / or family tombs. The part reserved for the niches is located in the upper end which also has an access from via Costalunga. If you are looking for a loved one but do not know or do not remember where their grave is, an entrance attendant can help by identifying the exact location with the name and surname of the deceased.

ENGLISH: The Cemetery of Sant'Anna is a monumental, Catholic cemetery located on the southern outskirts of Trieste. Designed by architect Matteo Pertsch, the structure was inaugurated on 1 August 1825. The cemetery houses the graves of famous people: Giuseppe Grezar, deceased footballer in the Superga tragedy; Margherita Hack, popularizer and scientist; Tiberio Mitri and Nereo Rocco; Umberto Saba; Giuseppe Sinico; Giorgio Strehler; Giani Stuparich and finally Italo Svevo. In addition there is also the tomb of one of the Slataper cousins, Lieutenant of the Alpini and decorated with the Gold Medal for military valor in memory for the courage shown in combat during the second defensive battle of the Don. Very large cemetery, very well organized and well maintained. There are numerous niches and monumental tombs with statues of considerable value. In particular, there is the Sartorio tomb, a monument consisting of a sculptural group on a base in Carrara marble bas-relief resting on a plinth with two gray marble steps; the sculptural group depicts the "Veiled Religion", the work of the Neapolitan sculptor Giuseppe Sanmartino, built in 1786, for the Régine chapel in Forio d'Ischia; between 1870 and 1886 it was placed in the tomb of the Sartorio family at the behest of Baron Pietro Sartorio. The veiled female figure rests on the high pedestal in the act of trampling on the symbols of lies and hypocrisy with a fallen putto representing sin (without a head) at her feet.
