Il vero nome dell'apostolo è Natanaele. Bartolomeo giunse a Cristo tramite l'apostolo Filippo. Dopo la resurrezione di Cristo, Bartolomeo fu predicatore itinerante (in Armenia, India e Mesopotamia). Divenne famoso per la sua facoltà di guarire i malati e gli possesso. Bartolomeo fu condannato alla morte Persiana: fu scorticato vivo e poi crocifisso dai pagani.
