★ ★ ★ ★ ★ È un posto bellissimo e ben tenuto, fresco ma non freddo e spazioso, in cui la Mamma Immacolata e S. Massimiliano Kolbe ti sono vicini (diverse grazie importantissime ottenute dopo preghiera in quella chiesa) e Gesù ti aspetta per incontrarti

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La posizione sopraelevata in cima ad una gradinata e il portale tardogotico stupiscono e attraggono il visitatore. L'interno risente di un totale rifacimento ottocentesco. Non male, ma non è quello che ti aspettavi. Vale la visita la grande pala d'altare di Lorenzo Lotto. Sono rimasta colpita anche dalla grande tela di Pellegrino Tibaldi che si vede entrando sulla destra, rappresentante il Battesimo di Cristo, in cui sono evidenti alcuni rimandi michelangioleschi alla Cappella Sistina.
The elevated position at the top of a flight of steps and the late Gothic portal amaze and attract the visitor. The interior is affected by a total nineteenth-century makeover. Not bad, but not what you expected. The large altarpiece by Lorenzo Lotto is worth a visit. I was also struck by the large canvas by Pellegrino Tibaldi that can be seen entering on the right, representing the Baptism of Christ, in which some Michelangelo references to the Sistine Chapel are evident.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Per me è la chiesa più bella di Ancona, resa ancora più interessante dalle rovine del convento a destra, dalla scalinata di San Francesco a sinistra e dalle abitazioni attorno. Anche gli interni sono davvero belli.
In pieno centro, consiglio di arrivarci a piedi.
For me it is the most beautiful church in Ancona, made even more interesting by the ruins of the convent on the right, the staircase of San Francesco on the left and the houses around it. The interiors are also really beautiful.
In the center, I recommend getting there on foot.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dall’alto di una gradinata, la Chiesa di San Francesco delle Scale prospetta su Piazza San Francesco, con un notevole effetto scenografico. Poco dopo la costruzione del convento e dell’oratorio (1295), la Chiesa fu costruita nel 1323 e dedicata inizialmente a Santa Maria Maggiore. All’inizio del 1400 venne ampliato il convento e contestualmente si costruì uno scalone monumentale che dalla strada più in basso consentiva l’accesso direttamente alla chiesa. All’esterno, si nota il magnifico portale gotico-veneziano a forma di tabernacolo, realizzato in pietra di Brioni da Giorgio da Sebenico, alla metà del Quattrocento (1455). Attorno all'ingresso si trovano, finemente scolpite, teste a tutto rilievo, opera di Giorgio Orsini, pure di Sebenico. Qualche studioso volle vedervi Dante, Petrarca, Laura, Boccaccio ecc. Nel padiglione è San Francesco; ai lati Sant'Antonio da Padova e San Lodovico da Tolosa. Sotto, San Bernardino di Siena e Santa Chiara.
From the top of a flight of steps, the Church of San Francesco delle Scale overlooks Piazza San Francesco, with a remarkable scenographic effect. Shortly after the construction of the convent and oratory (1295), the Church was built in 1323 and initially dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore. At the beginning of the 1400s the convent was enlarged and at the same time a monumental staircase was built which from the road below allowed direct access to the church. Outside, we note the magnificent Gothic-Venetian portal in the shape of a tabernacle, made of Brijuni stone by Giorgio da Sebenico, in the mid-fifteenth century (1455). Around the entrance there are finely carved heads in relief, the work of Giorgio Orsini, also from Sibenik. Some scholars wanted to see Dante, Petrarca, Laura, Boccaccio etc. there. In the pavilion is San Francesco; on the sides Sant'Antonio da Padova and San Lodovico da Tolosa. Below, San Bernardino di Siena and Santa Chiara.
