Get ready for a climb worthy of the name, we had to stop several times because we were definitely out of practice ?. (It takes about 40 minutes, but just ... it depends ..) It must also be said, however, that the young lady at the information point had warned us. Having said that, it absolutely deserves, during the climb you have the opportunity to glimpse the panorama which then, activated at the top, shows itself in all its wonder, there are also fountains to quench your thirst and 2 bathrooms, just before arriving, very clean. Obviously the monastery (where the cloistered nuns live) cannot be visited, but the 2 neighboring churches are, the one above is something special. There is a great atmosphere. It deserves to be visited. Ps. The landscape, the flowers and butterflies that you will see will be a pleasure for the eye and for the soul.

Nice discovery, we were in traffic on the highway and we went out at Chiusa and walked around the city a bit. Lovely place! Maybe I wouldn't go there on purpose but if you are passing through it is very nice to see.

Sabiona Monastery, located at the top, to get up there is a bit of walking. The car must be left in the parking lot down to the village. There is a climb so better wear comfortable hiking shoes. There is a wonderful panorama up there and you can also see the Isarco river. The monastery is very beautiful inside there are frescoes.

Mount Sabiona with its monastery is the emblem of the Isarco valley and is defined as the acropolis of Tyrol. The Benedictine nuns still live in the monastery on the mountain in absolute seclusion and give Sabiona its strong spiritual aura. The building that houses the monastery itself is not open to the public, while some churches can be visited! Challenging the climb to get to the top of the mountain!

Luogo storico e suggestivo.
Historic and suggestive place. It was for centuries (from the 4th century to the 10th century ...) the Sacred Mountain of Tyrol and the bishop's seat. With the transfer of the bishop's seat in 990 to Bressanone, it became an important fortress. Abandoned after a terrible fire in 1535, it was transformed into a Benedictine convent (cloistered) from 1687 and remained so until November 2021, when the nuns moved (there were only 3 left ..) and the convent was closed. . The complex includes walls, towers and 4 churches (2 very old), with important frescoes and works of art. It can be freely visited at the times indicated on site (not only the former convent and the adjoining church, currently closed to the public, are not accessible). It can be reached in about 45 minutes (uphill ..), starting from the historic center of Klausen and reaching the route of the Via Crucis, between vineyards and ancient medieval walls. The panorama is beautiful.

WALKING DIRECTIONS to the abbey. on Google maps are NOT CORRECT. The stairways leading up to the abbey is hidden away in town near the fountain in the square. Paste this location in the search box for Google maps .... Salita Sabiona, 11, 39043 Chiusa BZ, Italy....but dont follow Google maps directions if you are headed north because it will direct you to walk on the main road and there are parts of the road without sidewalks. Enter the main part of old town and head to the fountain. From there you can find the entrance to the stairway. There is a Jesus on the cross above the stone archway. The abbey is well worth the climb If you're doing it in the summer I would recommend either early morning or late afternoon when it's not so hot. It's a steep climb about 400 feet up. When you get to the top there are panoramic views of the city. Follow the wall around the back of the Abbey and you can enter the churches. Through a tunnel passageway there is another route that takes you around the other side of the mountains and back to the arched entrance
