★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful walk through of the multi-level fortress under part of the old town portion of Perugia thoroughly made accessible by a system of escalators. Rare centuries-old treat with some signs and a looping video on an upper level. I thought there would be more kiosks/shops , bazaar style, throughout but perhaps that only happens on certain days. Much more massive and impressive than anticipated, worth a visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We didn't know about this place so it was a surprise to find ourselves in a fortress halfway up the public escalator. For the locals this is a thoroughfare but it must make Perugia unique! We enjoyed the free video installation 'Perugia Folgara' tucked into a side-room. In another area was an installation about the demographics of Italy, the ethos of St Francis and an explanation of the frieze around Fontana Maggiore, which made seeing that more meaningful. The highlight of finding this thoughtful display was meeting Eliza, who helped us with the Italian text and was lovely to chat with.
