K	Klaus M. Bauer on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unglaublich schöne Befestigungsanlage. In gutem Zustand, aber nicht "zu Tode restauriert", wie man es andernorts manchmal sieht. Ich war absolut begeistert, sowohl von der Stadtmauer als auch vom ganzen Ort und seinen freundlichen Menschen. Zumal kaum andere Touristen zu sehen waren und ich alles völlig ungestört besichtigen und fotografien konnte. Komme sehr gerne mal wieder. Incredibly beautiful fortification. In good condition, but not "restored to death" as you sometimes see elsewhere. I was absolutely thrilled, both by the city wall and by the whole place and its friendly people. Especially since there were hardly any other tourists to be seen and I was able to view and take photos completely undisturbed. I would love to come back again.

A commissionare la rocca furono i Da Carrara signori della vicina Padova che volevano difendere la città dagli attacchi dei signori di Verona gli Scaligeri. Nel medioevo questa fortificazione era circondata da acqua e da una fitta boscaglia che dovevano renderlo inespugnabile, proprio per questo era chiamata "degli alberi". Peccato non si possa attualmente visitare. The Rocca degli Alberi, an imposing fortress that rises along the western stretch of the walls of Montagnana, was built between 1360 and 1362. The Da Carrara lords of nearby Padua commissioned the fortress who wanted to defend the city from the attacks of the lords of Verona the Scaligeri. In the Middle Ages this fortification was surrounded by water and a dense bush that had to make it impregnable, for this reason it was called "of the trees". Too bad we can't currently visit.

Le mura di cinta e i vari bastioni difensivi, sono davvero ben conservati e non hanno nulla da invidiare a quelli delle cittadine suddette, anzi. We had seen such situations only in France at Carcassonne and Aigues-mortes. The city walls and the various defensive bastions, are really well preserved and have nothing to envy to those of the aforementioned towns, indeed.

Un grazie al Comune che mantiene curato questo Patrimonio di tutti i Veneti. The Rocca degli Alberi is part of the walls of Montagnana, a small medieval jewel among the provinces of Padua, Verona and Vicenza. The walls and the turf are well kept. On this side of the walls there is the Palio di Montagnana, held every year in late August - early September. Thanks to the Municipality that maintains this Heritage of all the Venetians.

Un tempo era accerchiata completamente dal fossato pieno d’acqua e i suoi tre compartimenti la rendevano davvero difficile da conquistare. Conservata ancora bene esternamente accoglieva al suo interno un ostello fino a pochi anni fa. Ci sono ancora i grossi portoni di legno che un tempo chiudevano la città e le iscrizioni con i simboli dei Carraresi sopra le porte. Durante la rievocazione storica, che si tiene a settembre, qui viene ricordato l’incendio che Ezzelino da Romano appiccò alla Rocca durante l’occupazione della cittadina.
