Visiting this area without the crowds of summer, walking on this spectacular beach and eating amazing seafood on a balmy day after Christmas was a quiet highlight of our Florence/Tuscany-drive-by adventure. Now on to Lucca.

No music but very lively... likely due to every seat in the house being occupied and everybody engaged in boisterous conversation.
Server was fluent in English - helpful, attentive, and friendly.
Skip the mixed seafood grill ?
Just order pizza like EVERYBODY else...
We didn't get pizza but wow it looked great - looking forward to returning and giving it a try.
The calamari starter was awesome - side note: they do not serve it with tzatziki or any dip.
Large beer €3.50 ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were on our way to Lucca and decided to take the seaside route up the coast a bit. Well, Livorno is quite commercial. That's ok. Not everything can be tourist oriented: you have to have a place to conduct enterprise, too! But, up the road a bit we entered this little area south of Pisa and decided to stop and was able to drive right up to this charming, folksy and home spun restaurant. This is not a super fancy place, this is a famiglia place, just like an old time place someone in America from the tri-state region would find in an Italian neighborhood, but, the food here is better (don't tell anybody back home).
I had the zuppa de pesce, or at least that's what I think it was called. It was amazing! The tomato based broth imbued with fish stock and ladled over a piece of bread, dotted with all manner of seafood was just amazing. Honestly? One of my favorite dishes during our entire time in Italy. It must be very busy in the summer, but I bet that Mediterranean Sea looks stunning!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ate a pretty good steak here. My wife got some delicious risotto though that I wish I ordered myself. Oh well. Nice outdoor seating. Right by the water. Long walk from the street, just like every beach bar/restaurant in Tirrenia.
