★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We came for desert and coffee, the deserts were delicious, as was the espresso, though the cappuccinos were average. The view is stunning, and the service was excellent.
The restaurant was clean and service quick.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This must be one of the most polarising restaurants around with an almost equal number of 1 or 5 star ratings. Probably because the views raise your expectations and the service is more 'Italian' than touristic. Get over it. Enjoy the view, basic wine and decent food. We enjoyed our dishes. Bring cash and expect an unorthodox payment system by handing over your cash in a separate apartment next door.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our waiter was really excellent. His prattle was amusing as all heck. The food was fine, the house wine was better. The view was awesome. We were lucky and got in without a reservation. I imagine that during the busy months this would not have been the case.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If it weren’t for the views I would rate it less, the food came not well cooked we had to return it again to be well done.
Another thing is ##Cash Only## I had to step down 180 steeply steps walk up 300 meters to an ATM then come back to pay them, imagine doing that on a heavy stomach!
But to be honest ... it’s worth it, go there for a cup of coffee and sweets, the views gets better every second

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It takes a dedicated stair climb to get up to the Ristorante Bar Al Castello, where you are rewarded by a great view from the dining area and terrace. But you can get an even better view by paying a small fee to continue the stair climb up to the castle itself. And unfortunately, the view is about all the restaurant has going for it. Neither the food nor the service was bad by any means, and the complementary lemoncello when we paid was a nice touch. But we enjoyed such wonderful food and service during our two weeks in Italy that Al Castello stood out as relatively mediocre at best. Several other members of our tour group ate there as well (we were own our own for lunch), and that was the general consensus of the group.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing view over Vernazza! We had coffee and cakes. Both were good. Can't tell about the menu but from what I have seen on the tables, these are quite nice as well. Definitely a good place to have lunch after exploring Vernazza or a day at the sea.
