It was the access used by those coming from Switzerland, surpassing what was once a wooden bridge.
It dates back to the time of Ludovico il Moro.

Ancient gate of the fortified city walls of Tirano, dating back to the end of the 15th century. It was the main of the Tiranese gates. One of the two sides opens onto the Adda bridge. Well preserved, it represents a suggestive point of the Valtellina center.

The long river that runs along the Adda has a very messy and unpleasant aspect.
Old dilapidated houses, with a shabby decoration, alternate with post-war buildings, ordinary buildings in an extremely heavy jumble.
Nature, which here has nothing extraordinary, is not exalted in such an anthropic context.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nah this was not much to see. Of course a historical landmark but it is really just a iron bridge. No need to go here just to see this

PORTA POSCHIAVINA (XV cent). It belonged to one of the 14 towers of the fortified town walls, commissioned by Ludovico il Moro and completed in 1499. The portrayal of Justice and the coat of Arms of
Pianta (a bear leg) and Quadrio (three cubes) are still visible, but what mainly remains are the images of the “Uomo Selvatico” (Wild Man) of Tirano (if you go through the door, in the river direction on the first wall
on the right) and the primitive Man, which fed the alpine legend of the half man/half animal creature living in the woods

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situated in the old part of Tirano the gate is the medieval entrance to the city. The palaces are also open to the public at certain times. (check ahead)
