In origine i due Ghetti erano i quartieri delle fonderie.
A partire dal 1516, il Ghetto novo, divenne il luogo di residenza della comunità ebraica( dove avevano l'obbligo di rientrare di sera).
Nel 1541, per l'aumento della popolazione, gli si aggiunse anche il Ghetto Vecchio.
