È uno scrigno dell'arte lombarda e romanica del secolo XII. La struttura ha tre absidi e l'entrata sul lato meridionale con l'affascinante portale con simboli fantastici e floreali. All'interno di ammirano: gli affreschi in particolare quello della Madonna in trono col bambino, la cripta con colonne romaniche e il fonte battesimale costituito da un torchio. It stands on a spur of rock overlooking the Oglioe river immersed in the green of the woods. It can be reached after a short walk on a cobbled road. It is a treasure trove of Lombard and Romanesque art from the 12th century. Le numerose figure presenti nel portale d’ingresso sono forse da collegarsi alla tradizione milanese-pavese e sono costituite da forme zoomorfe, animali fantastici, tralci ed intrecci. Di particolare importanza le rappresentazioni scultoree del leone e dell’agnello poste a lato dell’ingresso e la lunetta sovrastante. Unmissable visit. Probabilmente su una preesistente struttura romana che, come spesso avviene, a sua volta insisteva su una ancor più antico luogo di culto. Il campanile verrà aggiunto in occasione della visita di San Carlo Borromeo. Agli inizi del secolo scorso ed a meta circa dello stesso, due restauri ripristino tetto ed altre parti ammalorate. Un portale riccamente decorato introduce allo spazio interno scandito da tre absidi di cui il centrale come il presbiterio e la navata sono rialzati. La cripta necessiterebbe di una decisa opera di pulizia e di un leggero restauro. L’orientamento est ovest permette di vedere il fondovalle dalla cripta che viene illuminata dai primi raggi del sole. La struttura è di indubbio valore e merita assolutamente una visita. Dai gradoni siti sulla parete ovest si accede a campanile e sagrestia. Varrebbe la pena di riportarvi il polittico del Maestro Paroto datato 1447, attualmente a Brescia in Santa Maria della Carità. Troppe volte si spoglia un sito per arricchirne un altro, il polittico è stato eseguito per questa pieve e ne è parte integrante. Raggiungibile a piedi in pochi minuti dal parcheggio del cimitero. Peccato sia poche volte aperta al pubblico. Beautiful church dating back to the Roman era. Surrounded by greenery, it overlooks Capo di Ponte on top of a rock. Reachable on foot in a few minutes from the cemetery car park. Too bad it is rarely open to the public.
