Citata per la prima volta nell'XI Secolo, la sua costruzione è sicuramente romanica; pare che sia stata addirittura edificata sulle rovine di un antico tempio pagano. Purtroppo della pieve originaria rimane ben poco: soltanto il classico abside semicircolare decorato con lesene ed archetti pensili, peraltro totalmente intonacato all'esterno. L'edificio fu pesantemente danneggiato nel 1361, a causa della guerra fra i Visconti di Milano e i Marchesi del Monferrato, mentre i rimaneggiamenti settecenteschi ne snaturarono irrimediabilmente la forma romanica. Nonostante tali traversie, la chiesa è ancora oggi meritevole di una visita, in particolare per la stupenda ancona fittile ospitata nell'altare, raffigurante una Madonna in trono con Bambino, dipinto quattrocentesco attribuito all'Anonimo di Borgomanero. Sebbene la pieve sia quasi sempre chiusa, si può gettare uno sguardo al suo interno tramite due piccole finestre devozionali poste sulla facciata. First mentioned in the 11th century, its construction is certainly Romanesque; it seems that it was even built on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple. Unfortunately, very little remains of the original parish church: only the classic semicircular apse decorated with pilasters and hanging arches, moreover totally plastered on the outside. The building was heavily damaged in 1361, due to the war between the Visconti of Milan and the Marquis of Monferrato, while the eighteenth-century alterations irreparably distorted the Romanesque shape. Despite these difficulties, the church is still worth a visit today, in particular for the beautiful clay altarpiece housed in the altar, depicting a Madonna enthroned with Child, a fifteenth-century painting attributed to the Anonymous of Borgomanero. Although the parish church is almost always closed, you can take a look inside it through two small devotional windows placed on the facade.
