The Parish of San Rufino is the largest community in the Diocese of Sessa Aurunca, in fact it has 8000 souls, numerous groups and many movements aggregated to the pastoral plan. The Church of San Rufino Vescovo (extramoenia or Porta di Mare) of Mondragone is of recent construction. The sacred building was built in 1958, by the architect Gaetano Rapisardi, commissioned by the then parish priest Don Salvatore Razzino. The plan of the original structure was trapezoidal, without side openings. The light came in exclusively from the windows along the dome. With the passage of time, the space inside the sacred building became insufficient to accommodate all the faithful, so much so that the then parish priest Mons. Francesco Alfieri thought about the preparation of a project for the enlargement of the liturgical hall. In the same period it was planned to carry out the parish works. The new project is by Eng. Poccia and Fulco. The church was lengthened by about 7 meters. Following the expansion works, the mosaic depicting San Rufino blessing with two praying angels was created. On the sides, ten windows with stained glass have been opened, added to the openings along the dome, called "Della Misericordia", with 16 Christian symbols and the seven spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Of particular interest are the two side chapels, one dedicated to the Custody of the Holy Eucharist, the other to the Baptismal Font. The presbytery is entirely in pink Portuguese marble. The altar is in white Carrara marble and depicts a scene from the Book of Revelation "The marriage of the Lamb has arrived, His Bride is ready". The ambo, to the right of the altar is also in white Carrara marble and the high relief on the sides depicts the canonical symbols of the four Evangelists, in front of the Angel of the "Resurrexit" at the empty tomb of the Risen Christ. Buried in the basilica of the Ss Apostoli, the body was then transferred, in 688 by the then Bishop S. Decoroso, to that of Sts. Stefano and Agata, and then to today's cathedral, where the site where it lies remains unknown, however. say placed at the entrance of the present chapel of the Conception, or at the entrance to the Treasury.
