E	Edmund Mart on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quando è stata costruita, la chiesa si trovava in un quartiere di nuova espansione della città, lungo il Torrente Bisagno, che con il tempo sarà saturato da un’edilizia intensiva. Il lotto destinato alla chiesa era stretto tra una scuola e una casa, a ridosso di un alto muro di contenimento di un terreno fortemente acclive, delimitato da due strade che consentivano un duplice accesso, a quote assai differenti a valle e a monte, con un dislivello di 16 metri. Le condizioni del quartiere erano problematiche: si continuavano a costruire nuovi edifici per una popolazione in crescita senza dotarli di adeguati servizi e gli abitanti lamentavano la mancanza di spazi di socializzazione e svago. Quaroni, seguendo “l’idea laica di chiesa come complemento e servizio alla città”, rinunciò a progettare un monumento di tipo tradizionale e concepì una chiesa in grado di completare e connettere i frammentari percorsi urbani favorendo la socializzazione. L’edificio è così attraversato su più livelli da percorsi di quartiere e offre spazi per la liturgia insieme a spazi per l’incontro. Purtroppo il progetto iniziale fu in parte modificato, in sede di realizzazione, per ricavare maggiori spazi per la sacrestia e, in seguito, per adattarne una parte ad alloggi per le suore e il parroco. Inoltre alcune finiture, previste nel progetto iniziale, non furono mai realizzate, modificando inevitabilmente ll'idea progettuale. La chiesa ebbe una grande fortuna critica. The conditions of the neighborhood were problematic: new buildings continued to be built for a growing population without providing them with adequate services and the inhabitants complained about the lack of spaces for socialization and recreation. Quaroni, following "the secular idea of the church as a complement and service to the city", renounced designing a traditional type of monument and conceived a church capable of completing and connecting the fragmented urban paths, favoring socialization. The building is thus crossed on several levels by neighborhood paths and offers spaces for the liturgy together with spaces for meeting. Unfortunately, the initial project was partially modified, during construction, to obtain more space for the sacristy and, later, to adapt a part of it to accommodation for the nuns and the parish priest. Furthermore, some finishes, foreseen in the initial project, were never realized, inevitably modifying the design idea. The church had a great critical fortune.
