Da visitare di giorno e anche con un piccolo cannocchiale, per poter meglio apprezzare il grande polittico del pittore messinese Antonello da Saliba, opera firmata e datata nel 1530, che dopo il restauro è stata collocata all'interno, in alto, sopra il portale principale che si affaccia sulla piazza IV novembre. Nel polittico son raffigurate scene con la Madonna con Bambino con il Cristo risorto, gli Apostoli e i Santi. In particolare si nota il patrono del Paese, San Giorgio, la compatrona Sant'Agata, San Pietro, San Paolo, San Giovanni Evangelista, Santa Margherita, Santa Caterina d'Alessandria e Sant'Emidio. L'opera è autografata con la dicitura "Rosalibba 1530". Sempre nella Chiesa, si apprezza, guardando a destra dell'altare maggiore, l'altare del SS. Sacramento che, sopra il tabernacolo, vede realizzata la scultura di una vera e propria stanza, in cui si raffigura l'ultima cena, con Gesù e i dodici apostoli. L'opera, realizzata intorno al 1596 e attribuita a Giacomo (o Jacopo) del Duca, artista del barocco siciliano, vale da sola la visita alla chiesa. Il parroco, molto accogliente, non mancherà di farvi sentire a vostro agio. Nessuno vi chiederà di lasciare un'offerta, ma fatelo: servirà anche a rendere fruibili a tutti questi e altri piccoli e grandi tesori di arte e devozione che la chiesa custodisce.
An unexpectedly beautiful church full of traditions in a town at the foot of the Peloritani. To be visited during the day and also with a small telescope, in order to better appreciate the large polyptych by the Messina painter Antonello da Saliba, a work signed and dated in 1530, which after the restoration was placed inside, at the top, above the main portal overlooking the piazza IV novembre. The polyptych depicts scenes with the Madonna and Child with the risen Christ, the Apostles and the Saints. In particular, we note the patron saint of the country, San Giorgio, the co-patron Sant'Agata, San Pietro, San Paolo, San Giovanni Evangelista, Santa Margherita, Santa Caterina d'Alessandria and Sant'Emidio. The work is signed with the words "Rosalibba 1530". Also in the Church, looking to the right of the main altar, one can appreciate the altar of the SS. Sacrament which, above the tabernacle, sees the sculpture of a real room, in which the Last Supper is depicted, with Jesus and the twelve apostles. The work, created around 1596 and attributed to Giacomo (or Jacopo) del Duca, an artist of the Sicilian Baroque, alone is worth a visit to the church. The parish priest, very welcoming, will not fail to make you feel at ease. Nobody will ask you to leave an offer, but do it: it will also serve to make accessible to all these and other small and large treasures of art and devotion that the church holds.
