The Cardeto park was built inside a former military base of the Navy. Therefore for many years it has been preserved by the frequency of visits and nature has been able to develop, much more spontaneously than in other areas of the city. Although the military base was built after the war, inside the park there are ancient fortifications dating back to 700, as well as an ancient lighthouse for navigation, flanked by a meteorological tower and a modern lighthouse. Very interesting is an ancient Jewish cemetery, located there, because in ancient times the Jewish cemeteries were placed outside. From the entrance of via Cadore you can reach a point suspended at a cliff, on the cliff below, furnished with a bench, where you can admire the sea. For those who want to find peace.

The Cardeto Park is a park that stands on the top of the Cappuccini and Cardeto hills that occupy the entire upper part of the city of Ancona. 35 hectares of land that bring together historical places, characteristic fauna and flora and breathtaking views overlooking the sea. The distinctive feature of the park is certainly the vegetation, the name itself derives from the thistles once typical of this area, whose seeds were greedy for goldfinches. Today, unfortunately, both thistles and goldfinches are very rare in the park, however plants and flowers are so luxuriant that they manage to create a great suggestion. The ancient walls of the buildings are covered with wallflowers, capers and snapdragons that with spring flowering become a flowered wall, always in spring you cannot miss a walk in the scenic pink of via del Faro offered by the flowering of the Judas trees. At the Campo degli Inglesi, on the other hand, there is an imposing example of olive growing on the sixteenth-century walls of the Basione di San Paolo. From the cliffs overlooking the sea you can then enjoy a unique view of the coast of Ancona. Inside the park you can also surprise the peregrine falcon and the cormorant. In the park there are also areas rich in history such as the Jewish Camp, one of the largest and best preserved Jewish cemeteries in Europe; the Campo degli Inglesi; the San Paolo Bastion, built in the 1500s and full of underground passages, all of which can be visited by appointment; the old lighthouse, of nineteenth-century origin that overlooks the whole city and from which you can enjoy a beautiful 360 ° panorama; the recently restored Polveriera Castelfidardo; Fort Cardeto and that of the Capuchins which give an idea of ​​how the city was walled and defended in the 19th century.
