Qui sin dagli albori hanno iniziato a giocare gli appassionati di pallacanestro quando ancora non c'era la copertura. Poi quando ha assunto l'attuale configurazione, è diventato il tempio di autentiche battaglie tra empedoclini e agrigentini negli anni in cui la pallacanestro locale era molto seguita e caratterizzata da un'accentuata rivalità tra le due città. Oggi la struttura ospita le partite dei Girgenti Giants (attualmente in serie D); aldilà del passato glorioso, è un palazzetto ormai superato e non più adeguato ad ospitare eventi sportivi di un certo rilievo e necessiterebbe di sostanziali interventi di manutenzione e trasformazione.
Historic sports hall of the maritime city named after Carmelo Hamel, one of the most talented players of his time who died prematurely. Since the very beginning, basketball fans have started playing here when there was still no coverage. Then when it took on its current configuration, it became the temple of authentic battles between Empedoclini and Agrigento in the years in which local basketball was very popular and characterized by a marked rivalry between the two cities. Today the structure hosts the games of the Girgenti Giants (currently in Serie D); Beyond the glorious past, it is an outdated building no longer suitable for hosting sporting events of a certain importance and would require substantial maintenance and transformation interventions.
