Good food typical from the Siena area. Absolute massive portions. Nice if you go with young kids as they have farm animals outside.

My family and I stayed at a little vacation rental just up the road from this fantastic little restaurant. All of the animals that are served on the menu are grown right there in the yard- vey local- and all of the food is hand made, not like some of the places you'll find in the bigger cities that serve frozen ravioli or lasagne. I can't recommend the Lunette al Tartufo enough, little round pasta pockets with fresh parmigiano and white truffles from nearby. The most exquisitely flavored dish you could imagine. Sitting on the terrace drinking wine and sipping grappa and amaro after a beautiful meal was quite romantic, so much so it seems to have inspired my now husband to propose under the Tuscan starlight later that night. A more perfect country restaurant would be hard to find.

Suggested by our hotel 'Borgo di Taiano', a very nice and recommendable resort, we drove to the restaurant Nonno Giulio, situated very lovely in the deep Tuscan countyside. It looked very beautiful, and there were many (italian) guests so we enjoyed the idea of having a good dinner there. However. We arrived at the restaurant but the staff 'did not notice' our presence. We stood there for a while and asked one of the waitresses whether there was place for two, and that we made a reservation (the hotel namely did). She said that she would look into it, and left us standing. She passed several times with meals and empty plates, but we were obviously not worthy to even look at. After some time, we asked another waiter, and we were put somewhere away from everything, a kind of runway for the waiters between the terrace and the kitchen. So finally after 15 minutes we could sit. Again, although it was the waiters' higway, we kept 'unnoticed' for another at least ten minutes. No drinks nothing. For us it was enough and we left. We have never been treated this badly in Italy. Although the place was crowded, at least some attention could be paid to (foreign) guests. We cannot say anything about the food quality, but as it was crowded with local people, it will sure be ok.

We had high hopes for this place but were disappointed. The servings are big, yes, but lack any finesse or flavour. They claim the pasta is made fresh daily but ours definitely had the texture of being cooked from frozen-my partner's ravioli was still cold inside! There are much better places around for the price.
