Nel 1500 dal d'Avalos figlio del re di Aragona vi fu eretto un monastero benedettino Camaldolese. Nel corso dei secoli XVI e XVII architetti e pittori napoletani vi profusero le loro opere. L'ordine fu soppresso da Napoleone e dai Savoia. Attualmente il monastero Γ¨ affidato alle suore Brigidine, Γ¨ visitabile e dalle terrazze prospicienti gli orti si gode un favoloso panorama de mare e dell'entroterra Campano.
San Gaudioso bishop, escaped from the Vandals of Africa, took refuge on this hill of volcanic origin and erected a chapel dedicated to the transfiguration. In 1500 a Benedictine Camaldolese monastery was erected by d'Avalos, son of the king of Aragon. During the XVI and XVII centuries Neapolitan architects and painters professed their works there. The order was suppressed by Napoleon and the Savoys. Currently the monastery is entrusted to the Brigidine nuns, it can be visited and from the terraces facing the gardens you can enjoy a fabulous panorama of the sea and the Campano hinterland.
