The Bologna Holocaust memorial is set on a crossroads by the train station and a bridge where many cars and travelers pass by every day. The Memorial was built after an architectural competition. Today, skateboarders commonly hang out and stay on site as it has smooth pavement and stairs, and this sometimes causes damage to area and structure. I hope that at least the kids and teenagers that go here will somehow or someway learn something about the Holocaust even if it though this odd and unfortunate choice of locations to practice their sport. These young people will grow up to be citizens, voters and members of the Bologna Community. Not only can we not forget the Holocaust, but we all as humans have a duty to teach the horrific lessons learned from that past generation to the next generations. Lest we be forced to see these tragedies happen again. This location is also used for events remembering the Shoah, Jewish and Multicultural holidays and other public events.
