Madonna del Pilone, Turin

The Parish of Baldissero Torinese dates back to the 18th century. On the sides of the central nave there are two chapels one dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario the other to S. Giuliano, patron saint of Baldissero On the portal, there is a beautiful choir built in 1851, to house the precious organ built by the Bossi company of Bergamo, and won 636 pipes .........

A beautiful historic place created in 1586, considered miraculous, became an object of worship in 1644. The central-plan church is covered by an octagonal dome inserted in the upper lantern and frescoed with the allegory of the redemption by Bartolomeo Guidobono. It has strong seventeenth-century characters.

A little gem on the Po ..... The church takes its name from a votive pillar that represented the Ss. Annunziata, erected on the bank of the Po in 1587, near which on 29 April 1644 an event deemed miraculous occurred, thanks to which the church was built that incorporated the pylon. The construction, financed with the offerings of the faithful and supported by Maria Cristina of France, began in 1644, and the building was opened for worship on March 25, 1645. This sacred place received many pilgrims who came from afar and so that during the years the first houses and hotels were built around the sanctuary and the village of Madonna del Pilone was built. The interiors are finely stuccoed and decorated; of particular value is the fresco of the allegory of redemption on the dome by Bartolomeo Guidobono, the fresco of the high altar, the frescoes by Giovanni Antonio Mari and Maria by Giovanni Casella. The exterior of particular value is the recently restored fresco, located under the tympanum of an unknown author, depicting the Annunciation.

Virgin of the Annunciation, built on the bank of the Po in 1587, near which April 29, 1644 there was a miraculous event, in thanksgiving which was built the church that incorporated the pylon. A little girl named Margaret Molar, unwisely entered the mill, thus falling into the raging waters of the River Po. The mother, in despair, then invoked the help of the Virgin of the pylon, and little was miraculously raised from the water vortex, so is rescued from a boat. Thanks to the offerings of the faithful and to the insistence of the then regent Maria Cristina of France, the year after it was built here a primitive sanctuary, with baroque facade castellamontiana school.

The Sanctuary takes its name from a votive pillar that represented the S.S. Virgin Annunziata, erected on the Po river in 1587, near which an event deemed miraculous occurred on 29 April 1644, in thanksgiving for which the church was built that incorporated the pylon. At the time, there was only a small mill on the river Po, known as the chains, a chapel and a small votive pillar from 1587, dedicated to the Virgin of the Annunciation. A little girl, named Margherita Molar, imprudently entered the mill, thus falling into the rushing waters of the river. The mother, desperate, then invoked the help of the Virgin of the pylon, and the little one was miraculously lifted by the whirlpools of the waters, then rescued from a boat. Thanks to the offerings of the faithful and to the insistence of the then regent Maria Cristina of France, the following year a primitive sanctuary was erected here, with a facade of the school of the Baroque school of Castellammonte. The building was opened for worship on March 25, 1645. In 1779 an expansion of the building was carried out and in 1787, to remedy the devastation wrought by the Napoleonic troops during the siege of Turin, the bell tower was added. While the baptistery and the choir date back to 1807 and 1817 respectively. In November 1994 the church and the square in front were invaded by the flooding of the river, causing serious damage to the structure, followed by an important renovation.
