Bellissimo restauro e ricollocazione di una statua densa di significato per i livornesi. Statua bronzea sostituita nel XX secolo alla originaria opera di Romolo Del Tadda, probabilmente risalente al 1576 e fatta erigere dalla Repubblica di Firenze in seguito alla eroica resistenza dei “villani”, i contadini ed i pescatori dei dintorni del villaggio labronico, all'assedio del 1496 di Genovesi, Veneziani e Tedeschi guidati dall'imperatore Massimiliano I d'Asburgo che volevano togliere Livorno a Firenze. La statua raffigurava un giovane contadino appoggiato al suo bastone con il cane, simbolo di fedeltà, ai piedi. Già nel 1906 viene istallata una copia in gesso del monumento al villano rovinato dal tempo e la mancanza di restauri.

Beautiful restoration and relocation of a statue full of meaning for the Livorno people. Bronze statue replaced in the twentieth century for the original work of Romolo Del Tadda, probably dating back to 1576 and erected by the Republic of Florence following the heroic resistance of the "villani", the peasants and fishermen from the surroundings of the Labron village, to the siege of the 1496 of Genoese, Venetians and Germans led by Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg who wanted to remove Livorno from Florence. The statue depicted a young farmer leaning on his stick with the dog, a symbol of fidelity, at his feet. Already in 1906 a plaster copy of the monument to the peasant ruined by time and the lack of restorations was installed.

bella statua in bronzo, il basamento è assai modesto di moderna concezione. I condomini restrostanti del quariere della Venezia ricostruiti negli anni 60 del XX secolo sono inguardabili.
