We had similar experiences as the previous post. We are English speaking and were told that, they are full ,you could see many empty tables!I like to post it on trip adviser also.

I'd give it NO stars if possible. The rudest people I have ever come across. I have been working g in the restaurant business for 15+ years and was appalled at how we were treated. Myself and my father are on vacation staying across the street from La Lampara and we approached the restaurant and were blatantly ignored. We entered a practically empty restaurant and were immediately told that they were FULL. There were 2 tables in there! It easily sat 100. We weren't even asked if we had a reservation so they were obviously not wanting out-of-towners there. If you are not a local or Italian do NOT even try La Lampara....it's a waste of time and you'll be treated like trash.

For the English speaking people who expressed disappointment at having been told that the restaurant was fully booked, perhaps if they tried to understand the language of the land they were in they would have understood this restaurant does not take "walk-ins" and operates only by reservation. Also in Italy good restaurants don't kick you out as soon as one finishes their meal ( a-la-mcdonalds), therefore, and even if you saw empty tables, they would have been booked for a later hour and the proprietor wouldn't have wanted to take a risk double booking them. A piece of advice: Never rely on the fact your English language is the reigning language of the world, therefore everyone MUST oblige to understand it fully, and try to mingle when overseas. Just sayin'...

La Lampara is a fantastic out-of-the-way restaurant with the freshest seafood in the area. We were staying nearby. I highly recommend it. It is largely a local crowd which contributes to its appeal. It's good to make a reservation even if the place looks available because most restaurants in this area book only one or two seatings per table each night which means you can relax and enjoy once you are there. Staff are friendly and professional and all about their work. They are not obsequious to tourists in the way Americans sometimes expect because that kind of behavior is now common in the USA restaurant and other service culture

We had exactly the same experience as the last two posts. We are staying across the street, and this restaurant was highly recommended by our hosts. Instead, when we walked in the restaurant, mostly empty, we were told that they were full and that we needed a reservation. We walked by an hour later and they still had plenty of room. It is clear that these people do not want strangers. Down the street a short distance is a Spanish restaurant, run by family, who were amazingly friendly and helpful. They fed us wonderful Spanish foods, and I would highly recommend them.
