A place to be enhanced because one of the few remained intact and well preserved over time; instead it was difficult to find because immersed in the brushwood and with few indications.

A very important historical place to visit. The catacomb of Donnafugata is located near the castle. It is not very well known as the importance of the castle makes this hypogeum, little advertised, go into the background. The signs are near the car park, you need to go to the right and take a dirt road for about 20 minutes. The hypogeum is divided into two areas: the entrance which is uncovered and the actual hypogean part. A narrow corridor, almost 17 meters long, connects the two sides.

Careful. The path is very stony. The cave was closed. There's no hint for opening times. Definitely not worth a visit.

We went in mid-December. The walk from the castle is pretty but on a very difficult surface, sometimes muddy, sometimes loose rock and stones.-When we got there the gate was closed (not surprising for mid-December, I suppose) but it is easily climbed over! The hypogeum itself is impressive and very atmospheric. If you are into necropoli or archaeological remains generally, it is worth the walk, otherwise maybe not. And you would need to be reasonably agile in terms of the walking surface getting there.
