Four little stars because I was alone in the cathedral and I was finally able to see a church from the parish priest's perspective.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eine Bischofsstadt hat einen großen Dom, dieser ist zwar aus dem 11.-13. Jh. und dem Hl. Cassianus geweiht, aber barockisiert worden und sehr kostbar mit Marmor-Fußböden und wertvollen Altarbildern ausgestattet. Der Blick nach oben: eine schön gestaltete helle Stuck-Decke. Ein Ort zum Innehalten, zu sich selbst und zu Gott zu kommen.
An episcopal city has a large cathedral, although this is from the 11th-13th centuries. Century and consecrated to St. Cassianus, but has been redesigned in Baroque style and is very precious with marble floors and valuable altarpieces. The view upwards: a beautifully designed light stucco ceiling. A place to pause, to come to yourself and to God.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Attorno all'anno 1200 il vescovo Enrico raggiunse un accordo con il Comune di Imola e iniziò a costruire una cattedrale dentro la mura della città e nel 1271 il duomo fu consacrato ,poi subi diversi restauri fra il 700 e l'800 e da ultimo negli anni 1998 2000 in occasione del giubileo, comunque si trova in un ottimo stato di manutenzione e merita di certo una visita
Around the year 1200 the bishop Enrico reached an agreement with the Municipality of Imola and began to build a cathedral inside the city walls and in 1271 the cathedral was consecrated, then underwent several restorations between 700 and 800 and most recently in the years 1998 2000 on the occasion of the jubilee, however it is in an excellent state of maintenance and certainly deserves a visit

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Duomo sorge al centro dell’omonima piazza. Edificato in stile romanico tra 1187 e il 1271, fu solennemente consacrato il 24 ottobre del 1271 con la deposizione nella cripta delle spoglie di San Cassiano.
L’edificio subì numerosi rimaneggiamenti fino a quando nel 1763, per gravi problemi di staticità, fu completamente riedificato su progetto dell’architetto Cosimo Morelli e solennemente consacrato nel 1782.
La facciata della chiesa è del 1850, frutto della modifica di un progetto sempre di Cosimo Morelli.
L’interno – di stile neoclassico a croce latina, a tre navate divise da pilastri corinzi – mostra chiaramente l’impronta di simmetria e grandiosità propria del Morelli. Punto focale è il presbiterio sopraelevato rispetto al piano della Basilica, scandito dalle due scalinate laterali, mentre una terza scalinata centrale porta alla cripta che custodisce i sepolcri marmorei dei SS. Cassiano, Pier Grisologo, Proietto e Maurelio.
Da segnalare il coro ligneo del ‘700, la fonte battesimale del ‘500 nella prima cappella a sinistra e nella seconda cappella a destra il bellissimo Cristo Crocifisso ligneo del 1400. Sull’altare maggiore si può ammirare il “Martirio di san Cassiano” di Pietro Tedeschi.
Numerose le tele di Angelo Gottarelli e tra esse spicca “L’esaltazione della croce” nella seconda cappella a destra dall’entrata.
È ancora visibile la lapide funeraria di Girolamo Riario, che su disposizione della vedova Caterina Sforza, fu sepolto nella Cattedrale, nella cappella Riario ora non più presente.
The Cathedral stands in the center of the homonymous square. Built in Romanesque style between 1187 and 1271, it was solemnly consecrated on 24 October 1271 with the deposition of the remains of San Cassiano in the crypt.
The building underwent numerous alterations until in 1763, due to serious static problems, it was completely rebuilt to a design by the architect Cosimo Morelli and solemnly consecrated in 1782.
The façade of the church dates back to 1850, the result of the modification of a project also by Cosimo Morelli.
The interior - in a neoclassical Latin cross style, with three naves divided by Corinthian pillars - clearly shows the mark of symmetry and grandeur typical of Morelli. The focal point is the presbytery raised above the floor of the Basilica, marked by the two side stairways, while a third central stairway leads to the crypt which houses the marble tombs of the SS. Cassiano, Pier Grisologo, Proietto and Maurelio.
The wooden choir of the '700, the baptismal font of the' 500 in the first chapel on the left and in the second chapel on the right the beautiful wooden crucifix of 1400. On the main altar you can admire the "Martirio di San Cassiano" by Peter Germans.
Numerous paintings by Angelo Gottarelli and among them "The exaltation of the cross" in the second chapel on the right from the entrance stands out.
The tombstone of Girolamo Riario is still visible, who was buried in the Cathedral, in the Riario chapel, now no longer present at the behest of the widow Caterina Sforza.
