In passato, è stato un tentativo ottocentesco di creare una chiesa protestante interamente italiana sulla scia ideale del Risorgimento politico su istanze prevalentemente anticlericali e garibaldine. Fra i suoi promotori principali vi era l'ex sacerdote cattolico barnabita Alessandro Gavazzi (1809-1889) e venne costituita nel 1850 a Londra fra esuli italiani.
 The Free Evangelical Church (or "Free Christian Church", or simply "Free Church"), is an Italian evangelical Christian denomination.
In the past, it was a nineteenth-century attempt to create an entirely Italian Protestant church in the ideal wake of the political Risorgimento on mainly anti-clerical and Garibaldi's demands. Among its main promoters was the former Barnabite Catholic priest Alessandro Gavazzi (1809-1889) and was established in 1850 in London among Italian exiles.
