Locally the Fort is better known as Forte Vecchio. Built on the remains of a pre-existing French fort, it was built by the Austrians in the second half of the nineteenth century (1845 - 1851) in order to control the lagoon area and the mouth of the port of Punta Sabbioni. Being placed at a safe distance from Venice, it was equipped with adequate anti-ship armament placed on the seafront, but it also had passive defense artillery towards the Venice lagoon. The main front on the west side facing the lagoon has two entrances: one facing a service field and the other, larger and more relevant because it has a portal and originally a drawbridge, facing an internal courtyard. During the Great War, two telemetry towers were built, one with a cylindrical base and the other with a quadrangular base, intended to spot the enemy and calculate the direction of the shot. Today Forte Treporti is partially inhabited and some sports and cultural associations have found their headquarters in its premises.

Interesting fort. It is a pity that it is abandoned and you can't get inside.

Consigliato
It is truly a testimony of the fortifications to protect Venice ... Abandoned that could not be worse ... Recovering it would be desirable. You can walk around the fort along the outer walls. Advised

It could be a nice forte if it wasn't abandoned and scary. We didn't know if we are able to go there because of the houses with numbers and cars inside.

Not sure if we should've been there or not. A giant peacock summoned us inside the gate. Seemed abandoned but as we walked away a man came out n walked behind us from where we don't know. He never spoke a word. Then a car came screaming out of nowhere and did a donut kicking up dust and drove to the gate. Then the man walked back into the walls. Fun n creepy it was.
