La leggenda racconta come un anonimo proprietario terrorizzato dall'aspetto truce della faccia se ne sia disfatto regalandola al Comune che la posiziono' nel luogo ove oggi si trova conosciuto poi col nome Boccalone.
Also known by dialect "l mascron" the Boccalone fountain represents the threatening face of a man with a wide mouth that frightens passers-by who look at it.
The legend tells how an anonymous owner who was terrified by the grim appearance of his face was undone by giving it to the Municipality which placed it in the place where today it is known then with the name Boccalone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bellissima fontana, antica. Raffigura una specie di figura mitologica, il Boccalone appunto che ha le sembianze di uomo con una grande bocca e uno sguardo tutt'altro che amichevole. Si dice che un tempo fu regalato alla città di Carrara da un tale che spaventato dall'aspetto non lo volle più in casa sua e da allora si trova in posizione odierna. L'acqua è naturalmente potabile, sempre fresca e proviene dai monti di Romito.
Beautiful fountain, ancient. It shows a kind of mythological figure, Boccalone the fact that the human form with a big mouth and a look unfriendly. It says that once was given to the city of Carrara by a man who startled by the no longer wanted at his house and since then is in a position today. The water is naturally clean, fresh and comes from the mountains of Romito.
