Nice fountain in the middle of the park. Certainly not as beautiful as the one in the square, but it still cheers up the area.

Fu la prima opera realizzata appositamente nel 1885, e inaugurata il 22 Novembre, in occasione della conclusione dei lavori di realizzazione dell'acquedotto cittadino. Tanto la fontana quanto l'acquedotto vennero eseguiti su commissione di Ulderico Levi, illustre uomo politico reggiano, protagonista di ripetute iniziative a favore della città. L'opera è costituita da un'ampia vasca circolare del diametro di 10 metri, con un isola centrale rocciosa da cui si innalza un piedistallo decorato da motivi vegetali, sormontato da tre putti che rappresentano allegoricamente la Fama, la Storia e la Riconoscenza. Sui lati del basamento sono presenti anche tre medaglioni: in uno si intravede un bassorilievo del volto dell'abate Ferrari Bonini, a cui è dedicata la fontana, mentre gli altri due, ormai scomparsi, erano targhe celebrative in metallo. Sopra al basamento è appoggiata una seconda vasca, più piccola, in cui è presente una serie di sculture rappresentanti animali marini e piante, da cui zampilla l'acqua.
The monumental fountain
It was the first work created specifically in 1885, and inaugurated on November 22, on the occasion of the conclusion of the construction works of the city aqueduct. Both the fountain and the aqueduct were commissioned by Ulderico Levi, an illustrious politician from Reggio Emilia, the protagonist of repeated initiatives in favor of the city. The work consists of a large circular tank with a diameter of 10 meters, with a central rocky island from which rises a pedestal decorated with plant motifs, surmounted by three putti representing allegorically Fame, History and Riconoscenza. On the sides of the base there are also three medallions: in one you can see a bas-relief of the face of Abbot Ferrari Bonini, to whom the fountain is dedicated, while the other two, now gone, were commemorative metal plaques. Above the base there is a second, smaller basin, in which there is a series of sculptures representing marine animals and plants, from which the water gushes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fontana storica molto ben inserita in questo parco cittadino alle porte del centro storico principale di Reggio Emilia. Tutto sommato pulita ed ordinata come la zona nell'intorno, anche se non mi ispirava una grossa fiducia se avessi dovuto passarci dopo il crepuscolo. La fontana comunque è sicuramente da vedere.
Historical fountain very well inserted in this city park on the outskirts of the main historic center of Reggio Emilia. All in all clean and tidy like the surrounding area, even if it didn't inspire me a lot of confidence if I had to go through it after dusk. However, the fountain is definitely worth seeing.
