Costruita nel 1929 ed inaugurata il 14 dicembre del 1930 dal Principe Umberto di Savoia, ospitò reggimenti di artiglieria e bersaglieri fino alla fine degli anni 80. Negli anni precedenti alla chiusura ha avuto il ruolo di caserma CAR per l’addestramento reclute.
15 aprile 1977 dalla trasformazione del distaccamento del 16º Battaglione fanteria "Savona" venne costituito ad Albenga presso la caserma "Piave" il 14º Battaglione bersaglieri "Sernaglia" al quale vengono affidate la bandiera e le tradizioni del 5º Reggimento Bersaglieri. La bandiera di guerra è stata assegnata al battaglione con Decreto del presidente della Repubblica14 n.° 173 del 14 marzo 1977,[2] pubblicato sulla Gazzetta Ufficiale n.° 124 del 9 maggio 1977.
Il 14º Battaglione bersaglieri "Sernaglia" era intitolato al nome della battaglia decisiva che nel novembre 1918 aprì la strada alle truppe italiane per Vittorio Veneto. Il 14º Battaglione bersaglieri "Sernaglia" svolse compiti di addestramento per le truppe destinate alle unità delle Divisioni corazzate "Ariete" e "Centauro". L'unità venne soppressa il 30 dicembre 1989.
La bandiera del 14º Battaglione che fu del 5º Reggimento Bersaglieri è custodita dal 20 dicembre 1989 presso il Sacrario delle bandiere del Vittoriano in Roma.

Built in 1929 and inaugurated on 14 December 1930 by Prince Umberto of Savoy, it housed artillery and bersaglieri regiments until the end of the 1980s. In the years prior to its closure, it served as a CAR barracks for training recruits.
15 April 1977 from the transformation of the detachment of the 16th Infantry Battalion "Savona", the 14th Bersaglieri Battalion "Sernaglia" was established in Albenga at the "Piave" barracks, to which the flag and traditions of the 5th Bersaglieri Regiment are entrusted. The war flag was assigned to the battalion by Decree of the President of the Republic14 no. 173 of 14 March 1977, [2] published in the Official Gazette no. 124 of 9 May 1977.
The 14th "Sernaglia" Bersaglieri Battalion was named after the decisive battle which in November 1918 opened the way for Italian troops to Vittorio Veneto. The 14th "Sernaglia" Bersaglieri Battalion carried out training tasks for the troops destined for the units of the "Ariete" and "Centauro" armored divisions. The unit was suppressed on December 30, 1989.
The flag of the 14th Battalion that was of the 5th Bersaglieri Regiment has been kept since December 20, 1989 at the Vittoriano flag shrine in Rome.
