Passato di mano ai Principi d’Acaja, nel 1361 tornò nuovamente nelle proprietà vescovili. Danneggiato e saccheggiato durante le guerre nel Canavese, il vescovo Bonifacio Ferrerò lo fece ricostruire interamente. L’attuale aspetto dell’edificio risale agli ultimi interventi avvenuti nel 1641 dopo che la fortezza venne nuovamente distrutta nel corso della guerra civile. Posto al centro dell’anfiteatro morenico, il castello di Albiano d’Ivrea domina il centro urbano dell’omonimo comune, situato a pochi chilometri di distanza dal capoluogo piemontese. Da sempre sotto il dominio temporale dei vescovi d’Ivrea, l’imperatore Ottone lo infeudò all’allora vescovo eporediese nell’anno 1000, ratificando uno status quo da secoli vigente. Oltre ai vescovi, il castello ospitò nell’ottocento il Duca di Genova che vi soggiornò per qualche tempo. Ai piedi del castello, su gradoni in discesa sorgono i ricetti, antiche costruzioni a due piani che si snodano lungo una stradina selciata, un tempo ricoperta di pergolati di viti. Il castello di Albiano d’Ivrea ospita oggi il vescovo della città, nonché alcune famiglie che formano la comunità del castello The Episcopal Castle of Albiano d’Ivrea has very ancient origins and seems to have risen on the remains of an ancient Roman villa. F	Flavia Niglio on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful Castle, surrounded of a quite and enchanting Village. It's Easy to reach It from the main "Square" of the Village, right in front of the "city hall". Less than five minutes and you are on the top of the Village with the Castle behind you and the view of the Village and the surrounding area like the "cordone morenico" (morainic cord) and others small villages. Unfortunately the Castle Is private, so it's not possibile to visit the inside, except if you are lucky to be there in some days chosen by the owner (bishop of Ivrea). Silence, nature, history, traditions, and the warmth of the locals, are the terms that best suit this village.
