San Lorenzo, Cardinal Protodeacon of the Holy Roman Church, and True Protomartyr of Charity in Rome, where he was very much listened to and very close Collaborator and Counselor of the Pope, and of the Universal Church. He died a martyr, also in Rome, because it was in an age of persecution by the worshipers of satanic idols, and Christianity was "illicit religion" already by decree of the Emperor Tiberius, under whose reign Jesus of Nazareth, God Himself made Truly Human Being, he underwent His Passion, He died and then He was Risen by His Omnipotence and His Heavenly Divine Father from the sleep of Death. "Religio Illicita", that is OUTLAW. Being a Christian, until Constantine I the Great, was a crime and an offense to be punished with capital punishment. San Lorenzo was a Martyr, for Love of Charity and the Poor. He is buried in Rome, in the Patriarchal Basilica of San Lorenzo al Campo Verano (or "outside the walls", one of the 7 Most Important Churches in the World, 5 in Rome and two in Assisi, the 7 Patriarchal Basilicas of the City and of the Orbe). Rome is full of Basilicas and Churches dedicated to the Holy Cardinal Martyr, Universal Patron of Charity and of all the Needy. But everywhere there are great basilicas dedicated to this saint, such as the grandiose and spectacular Genoa Cathedral, the Apostolic Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of San Lorenzo and San Giovanni Battista Precursor of Jesus, whose Sacred remains are kept in the great Genoese Cathedral. Here, in Ronchi dei Legionari, Archdiocese of Gorizia, the majestic and vast neo-classical Cathedral, the Mother Church of this charming town close to the industrial and maritime Monfalcone, is also dedicated to the great San Lorenzo. It is one of the most important churches of the Isonzo Archdiocese. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo is beautiful, with a single very wide nave, rich in works of plastic and pictorial art. Its bell tower is beautiful, with its tall and slender spire dominating Ronchi and all around. A typical architecture of this historical and geographical area. A late Romanesque of supreme sobriety, with a large belfry open on all four sides by large paired round single-lancet windows, two on each side. My humble invitation goes to Monsignor Archpriest of the Cathedral of Ronchi to make his Great and Magnificent Temple a True Sanctuary in honor of the Exalted Saint of Charity to whom it is dedicated.
