★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a 17th century Franciscan Monastery (convent). There were Franciscan Capuchin Friars in the beginning and as they left the Convent was abandoned. A Passionist monk (Fr. Archangelo) who wanted to live there as a hermit, repaired it. Various social reasons made him leave the place. Different activities were suggested by the municipality for the premises and at last they asked the Congregation of Vocationists (who were already present at the convent of Mercato Cilento).
Later the house was called Gaudium Institute (Istituto Gaudium) for boys accommodation. After the world war the house helped numerous orphan boys to find a decent roof while poor families entrusted their boys to the institute for schooling. Later the premises served also as a part of the school for many years.
Here Vocationist Sisters cared for these children with a few Vocationist Fathers.
Later when the sisters left as they were old and lesser in number the house was no more accepted boys.
Thus the house served only as a presbytery for the parish priests and a good part of the building was almost abandoned.
Later in 2014 a Vocationist priest (Fr. Johny Kaitharath sdv) was appointed to renew the house. Until then the house accommodate guests.
