E peccato che non si affacci sul mare, sarebbe un gran vedere. Oggi poi con questo bellissimo sole si sta magnificamente seduti all'esterno. Gorgeous and wonderful architecture. Ponti vuole che la chiesa sia moderna, monumentale, ma legata alla tradizione religiosa pugliese. Il richiamo alla modernità è affidato all’uso del cemento bianco faccia vista; la monumentalità, alle sue dimensioni e all’essere anticipata da una scalinata e da una vasca d’acqua nella quale l’immagine si riflette; il legame con la tradizione locale, dall’uso del colore bianco. The project for the new cathedral of Taranto stems from the need to create a religious center near the new axis of expansion of the city, which also had to include a school, an auditorium and some houses that were never built. Ponti wants the church to be modern, monumental, but linked to the Apulian religious tradition. The reference to modernity is entrusted to the use of white exposed concrete; the monumentality, due to its size and to being anticipated by a staircase and a pool of water in which the image is reflected; the link with local tradition, from the use of white.
