Il territorio del comune è attraversato dal torrente L’Aia, dalle cave viene estratto il “marmo rosso di Cottanello”. Il centro storico di Cottanello è completamente zona pedonale e si può passeggiare per le stradine in pietra, si può aggirare tutto il paese tramite lo spazio di ronda tra le due mura di cinta, l'attuale via del Corridoio. Attualmente l'ingresso del paese è la Porta del Regno, cosi chiamata perché affacciava verso il Regno di Napoli, ricostruita nel 1572. Cottanello is a town of about 540 inhabitants in the province of Rieti. The territory of the municipality is crossed by the stream L’Aia, the "red Cottanello marble" is extracted from the quarries. The historic center of Cottanello is completely a pedestrian area and you can walk through the stone streets, you can get around the whole town through the patrol space between the two walls, the current Via del Corridor. Currently the entrance to the town is the Porta del Regno, so called because it faced the Kingdom of Naples, rebuilt in 1572.
S	Sonia Cruz on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Un borgo molto carino della Sabina, che si può fare il giro del paese intorno a le sue mure medioevale molto bene conservate e con un panorama mozzafiato e li' vicino si trova l'Eremo di San Cataldo ⛪ incastonato nelle pietre molto suggestivo e, soltanto che la chiesetta e' sempre chiusa (dovuto pure al covid19) e se volete visitare e' da domandare in paesi se si possono aprire. Apena si arriva nel borgo, si trovano parcheggio e pure bagni publici. Consiglio vivamente la visita, un borgo tranquili, pulito e con l'aria buona e una piazza che si vedi un bel paesaggio verdeggiante della vallata Sabinesi. As soon as you arrive in the village, you will find parking and even public bathrooms. I highly recommend the visit, a quiet, clean village with good air and a square that shows a beautiful green landscape of the Sabinesi valley.

Da menzionare il famoso marmo rosso di Cottanello e da non perdere il suggestivo vicino Eremo di San Cataldo.
