Il giglio rimanda alle vicende del predominio fiorentino nella Valdinievole e alla connessa, definitiva sottomissione di Buggiano avvenuta nella prima metà del XIV secolo. Agli inizi del secolo successivo lo stemma comunale aveva come simbolo un toro rampante, la sostituzione con un bue, mite e andante, è probabilmente dovuta alla volontà di collegare il simbolo al nome della comunità.
 The coat of arms of the Municipality of Buggiano is silver, with the red ox, standing on the green countryside, surmounted by a red lily.
The lily refers to the events of Florentine dominance in the Valdinievole and to the connected, definitive submission of Buggiano in the first half of the 14th century. At the beginning of the following century the municipal coat of arms had a rampant bull as a symbol, the substitution with an ox, mild and andante, is probably due to the desire to connect the symbol to the name of the community.
