Rome's, if not Italy's, most enduring icon is undoubtedly its Colosseum. Built between A.D. 70 and 80 A.D., it was in use for some 500 years. The elliptical structure sat nearly 50,000 spectators, who gathered to watch the gladiatorial events as well as other public spectacles, including battle reenactments, animal hunts and executions. Earthquakes and stone-robbers have left the Colosseum in a state of ruin, but portions of the structure remain open to tourists, and its design still influences the construction of modern-day amphitheaters, some 2,000 years later.

Good experience. Had a really short queue for some reason. Very scenic and saw this car outside

Really enjoyed getting to see this historical site however there is little shade anywhere during the day. Buy your tickets in advance! Bring a hat and lots of water. Lines moved super fast. We got tickets in advance to skip the lines. Worth it! Would be better if they could organize some sort of coverage for visitors and to help protect the actual site itself. Found it odd to see everywhere sitting on old stones and touching everything. Would love to see Rome step it up to ensure this amazing place is preserved better for the future!

Absolutely incredible, went for normal tickets no tour and feel I didn’t fully experience it maybe a tour is better suited, the structure itself is amazing night and day would happily pay extra prices for cafes and restaurants with views of the colosseum. One of my favourite parts of Rome
