★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Edificata a partire dal 1373, la Cittadella Viscontea di Piacenza, soprattutto all'esterno, presenta ancora il suo aspetto prettamente medievale con due torri angolari e tre ingressi fortificati. Come molte fortezze viscontee, la pianta era originariamente rettangolare; con l'avvento dei Farnese (1559) la metà orientale del castello è stata demolita per far posto all'incompiuto Palazzo Farnese; le due strutture, una attaccata all'altra, hanno in comune l'ingresso e la corte.
La Cittadella è in ottimo stato di conservazione; risulta molto interessante il percorso all'esterno che costeggia le possenti mura.
 Built starting from 1373, the Visconti Citadel of Piacenza, especially on the outside, still has its purely medieval aspect with two corner towers and three fortified entrances. Like many Visconti fortresses, the plan was originally rectangular; with the advent of the Farnese family (1559) the eastern half of the castle was demolished to make way for the unfinished Palazzo Farnese; the two structures, one attached to the other, have the entrance and the courtyard in common.
The Citadel is in excellent condition; the path outside that runs along the mighty walls is very interesting.
