Le vicende storiche hanno legato la parrocchiale di Celenza soprattutto alle dinastie feudali dei Caracciolo e dei Pignatelli che del diritto di patronato conservano gli stemmi della chiesa stessa; l’influenza dei Pignatelli è testimonianza anche della presenza all’interno della chiesa della tomba gentilizia D’Avalos-Pignatelli di forme medioevali. È stata costruita prima del XVI con trasformazioni nel XVIII (epoca in cui fu demolito l'adiacente palazzo ducale) e nel XX secolo. Altri restauri sono stati effettuati nel 1937 e dopo i bombardamenti del 1943. Del XIII-XIV secolo rimane una partitura architettonica posta sulla facciata. Un'arca in pietra scolpita è, attualmente, adattata ad altare. Sull'architrave del portale è riportata un'iscrizione che testimonia che la chiesa è stata ricostruita nel 1605 per opera di Giovanni Battista Caracciolo. La torre campanaria fu terminata nel 1792, ma sembra che dovesse, in passato fungere da torre difensiva. L'interno è a tre navate. (web) Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The historical events have linked the parish church of Celenza above all to the feudal dynasties of the Caracciolo and the Pignatelli who preserve the coats of arms of the church itself from the right of patronage; the influence of the Pignatellis is also evidence of the presence inside the church of the noble tomb of Avalos-Pignatelli of medieval forms. It was built before the sixteenth with transformations in the eighteenth (when the adjacent ducal palace was demolished) and in the twentieth century. Other restorations were carried out in 1937 and after the bombings of 1943. An architectural score on the facade remains from the 13th-14th century. A carved stone ark is currently adapted to an altar. On the architrave of the portal there is an inscription which testifies that the church was rebuilt in 1605 by Giovanni Battista Caracciolo. The bell tower was finished in 1792, but it seems that in the past it must have served as a defensive tower. The interior has three naves. (web)
