Nella Visita pastorale del vescovo di Tricarico, mons. Santonio, del 1588, la chiesa, dedicata all'Assunzione di Maria, viene descritta con impianto planimetrico a 5 navate e 8 colonne di pietra circolari. Vi erano poche finestre, il campanile aveva una copertura a forma piramidale con una guglia. All'interno vi erano 16 cappelle alcune pubbliche altre private, con molte statue. La chiesa madre è l'unica chiesa ricettizia di Stigliano.
DescrizioneLa chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, menzionata già nel 1588 venne completamente ricostruita nel Settecento. Si presenta con una facciata completa, al primo ordine, di lesene e capitelli. Il fronte, sul lato destro, è completato dal volume del campanile. Il secondo ordine risulta spoglio e incompleto. Ha una pianta impostata su tre navate divise da una serie di pilastri.

In the pastoral visit of the bishop of Tricarico, Msgr. Santonio, from 1588, the church, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, is described with a plan with 5 naves and 8 circular stone columns. There were few windows, the bell tower had a pyramid-shaped roof with a spire. Inside there were 16 chapels some public others private, with many statues. The mother church is the only receiving church in Stigliano.
Description The church of Santa Maria Assunta, already mentioned in 1588, was completely rebuilt in the eighteenth century. It has a complete facade, on the first order, of pilasters and capitals. The front, on the right side, is completed by the volume of the bell tower. The second order is bare and incomplete. It has a plan set on three naves divided by a series of pillars.
