La sua costruzione risale agli ultimi anni del ‘700 e infatti, con molta probabilità, la struttura fu terminata nell'anno 1783. La chiesa presenta una pianta a croce latina, costituita da tre navate che si intersecano con un'altra navata trasversale di differente lunghezza. Sulla base della bellissima cupola della chiesa vengono raffigurati i quattro Evangelisti. Molto particolare è la presenza di dieci altari in marmo costruiti tra la fine dell'800 e l'inizio del ‘900. That of Santa Maria della Misericordia represents the mother church of the village of Oliveto Citra. Its construction dates back to the last years of the eighteenth century and in fact, most likely, the structure was finished in the year 1783. The church has a Latin cross plan, consisting of three naves that intersect with another transverse nave of different length. The four Evangelists are depicted on the basis of the beautiful dome of the church. Very particular is the presence of ten marble altars built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
