The sanctuary is located near the place where it is believed that, in 1307, Queen Eleonora of Aragon had a chapel dedicated to the Madonna erected to promote Christian worship and supplant pagan festivals in honor of Ceres and Proserpina.

Se entrate in chiesa non mancate di andare nella prima cappella a destra, dove si trova il corpo imbalsamato di un monaco del '600. Nello spiazzo accanto al convento è stato posto recentemente un obelisco in rame che sta a indicare il centro geografico esatto della Sicilia. Spettacolare il panorama che si gode dal parapetto: avrete tutta la Sicilia meridionale davanti ai vostri occhi! The small hermitage welcomes the patroness of Enna on the evening of July 2nd. If you enter the church, be sure to go to the first chapel on the right, where the embalmed body of a 17th century monk is found. In the open space next to the convent a copper obelisk has recently been placed which indicates the exact geographical center of Sicily. The view from the parapet is spectacular: you will have all of southern Sicily before your eyes!
