★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La fondazione della chiesa madre di Veglie, dedicata a san Giovanni Battista e santa Irene, risale all'XI secolo. Fu ricostruita nel 1565 e portata a compimento nel XVIII secolo. E' Molto bella, sia all'esterno con la facciata arricchita da un rosone e dal portale rinascimentale e sia l'interno, in particolare per l'altare barocco del Santissimo Sacramento. Per chi passa da Veglie, consiglio unaa visita.
The foundation of the mother church of Veglie, dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Irene, dates back to the 11th century. It was rebuilt in 1565 and completed in the eighteenth century. It is very beautiful, both on the outside with the facade enriched by a rose window and the Renaissance portal and on the inside, especially for the Baroque altar of the Blessed Sacrament. For those who pass by Veglie, I recommend a visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Risalente forse al XI secolo ma del XV secolo ci sono tracce nella facciata laterale caratterizzata dal portale e da una serie di monofore chiuse successivamente. Il prospetto fu ricostruito nel 500 con il rosone e il portale a colonne sormontato da un timpano rettangolare, che racchiude una lunetta con l’altorilievo della Madonna Sede Sapientiae, tra gli Apostoli Pietro e Paolo. Qui é conservata la statua lignea raffigurante il santo protettore, di provenienza napoletana del XVIII secolo.
Perhaps dating back to the 11th century but from the 15th century there are traces in the side façade characterized by the portal and a series of mullioned windows closed later. The façade was rebuilt in the 16th century with the rose window and the columned portal surmounted by a rectangular tympanum, which encloses a lunette with the high relief of the Madonna Sede Sapientiae, between the Apostles Peter and Paul. Here is preserved the wooden statue of the patron saint, of Neapolitan origin from the 18th century.
